Visitors Information Sundarban
Sundarban is a wildlife tiger reserve forest in India. Its Unesco world heritage Site. It is also a Mangrove national park and a biosphere reserve in the West Bengal state of India.
Species:
Sundarbans is home to many different species of birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, and also fishes. 120 species of fish and 260 species of birds have been recorded in the Sundarbans. The Gangetic River Dolphin (Platanista Gangetic) is common in the rivers.

50 species of reptiles and eight species were found. The Sundarbans now support the only population of the Estuarine or Salt-Water Crocodile in India. The saltwater Crocodiles are 200 hundred individuals.

Visitor Information Sundarban | Tourist information of Sundarban
The present Sundarban National Park was declared the core area of the Sundarban Tiger Reserve in 1973 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1977. 1984 it was declared a national park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1987.
It was a water-logged jungle, in which tigers and other wild beasts abounded. The Sundarbans were everywhere divided by river channels and creeks.
The only means of traveling to the park is by boat, down the various lanes formed by the many flowing rivers. Local boats or vessels operated by local people.

Open For Tourists: January to December
Closed for Tourists: Every Tuesday of the week.
Best time to visit for birds: – August to January
Best time to visit for tiger: – August to February
Forest entry Time – 7 am to 4 pm.
How to reach Sundarban?
Kolkata to Godkhali Sundarbans distance is 103 km.
There are two main routes to Reach Sundarbans from Kolkata.
1 – a) -Basanti Highway. b) Baruipur-Canning Highway.
2 – By Train from Sealdah(one of the major rail stations of Kolkata). Get down the canning station. There is lots of public transport for Godkhali (entry point of Sundarbans
Entry Formalities:
One can get a permit online before visiting the Sanctuary by boat.
Requirements For Indians:
- Photocopy of any photo Id is a must. Tourists must, however, carry the originals also.
- Indians are charged Rs.120 (which can be revised by Forest Department at any time) for entry by boat.
- The camera fee is additional to this. Still & Digital cameras are charged no charges.
- Video Camera is chargeable.
- These charges can, however, be revised by Forest Department at any time.
Requirements For Foreign Nationals:
- A copy of passport, visa, photocopy, and original.
- Originals of the documents need for a permit.
- The charges are collected directly by the Forest Department.
Forest Entry Charges-
Boat safari fee @ Rs.600 per day.
Man entry fee Indian @ Rs.120 per day. | Foreigner Rs 500 Per Head
Guide charges Indian Rs.700 per day. | Foreigner Rs. 1500 Per Day
Safari and jungle entry time 7.00 am. Jungle exit time is 4.00 pm.
Sundarban WatchTower
CORE ZONE WATCHTOWER
Netidhopani: Here the tourists get to see the ruins of a 400-year-old temple along with a watch tower. Netidhopani is a part of the core area of Sunderbans. This is an excellent site where you may find the pleasure of spotting the Royal Bengal Tiger. You may see spotted Deer, and many birds and other animals here. The ideal time to visit this place is in the afternoon or early morning. The animals generally avoid the scorching sun of the noons.
HARIKHALI-
Harikhali is a Range office of the eastern part of Sundarbans. In this part of Sundarbans, you also see deer, fishing cats, and monitor lizards and snakes.
Harinbhanga, tourists can see a variety of birds. Mangrove trees, Estuarine Crocodile and Dolphin. History and culture are very attractive. Subdarban offbeat tour a trip of lonely long boat drive to Sundarban delta area. It will be an adventure tour.
BUFFER ZONE
Sajnekhali:
Mangrove Interpretation Centre, turtle, crocodile pond, watch tower, and sweet water pond are the main attractions here.
Sudhanyakhali:
A Mangrove Park along with a sweet water pond and watch tower with observation lines provides a vantage point for tourists to see wildlife. Dobanki Canopy Walk: This aerial pathway allows tourists to have an aerial view of the forest.

Watchtower This watchtower is famous for the canopy walk. this walk allows you to view wildlife from a netted enclosure.
Burirdabri
Cage trail and mud walk: This is a favorite with the tourists as it allows the tourists a feel of the muddy forest floor. The ground fauna can be observed closely. It culminates into a watch tower overlooking Bangladesh with river Raimongal forming the boundary.

A watch tower with observation lines and a sweet water pond for observing the wildlife.

Obtain an entry permit before entering the park.
Always use a licensed boat. The boatman is your first guide.
Observe perfect silence while moving in the Sanctuary.
Keep your eyes and ears open to observe nature at its best.
Keep silence insight forest.
If possible, carry a binocular to observe birds and other small animals.
Obey the rules and regulations of the park. Violation of these can lead to prosecution or fines or both

Do not tease animals. It keeps animals under stress and they may turn aggressive.
